The Lava Hotel in Apia, Samoa has been built with millennial travellers in mind. It has a modern, contemporary feel, with an open, somewhat eclectic style, incorporating local Samoan cultural design and influences.
The development first broke ground in 2017 and has been made possible thanks to the long-term vision of the Samoan government to promote tourism by investing in first class hotels.
“GDM were invited to price this project by the procurement company Statement ID,” says GDM design manager George Russell.
“We saw great value in it and knew it would be an excellent fit for our team.”
GDM have manufactured and installed all of the public space joinery including the reception, bar, banquet seating, feature screens, feature timber displays, shelving and feature wall panelling. It is a custom one-off build.
“With any project there are challenges, however this one has been pretty unique,” says George.
“The site location is remote, we have never worked in Samoa before, so at times it could be difficult to gain accurate information from site.”
“It was also a custom build which required special finishes, so it became something of an experimental process to get the right look and feel.”
Millennial travellers are smart and savvy as they look at the world with a global perspective, placing value on memorable experiences. The Lava Hotel fits the bill perfectly.
“We are thrilled with the final result and cannot wait to hear feedback from hotel guests as to their first impressions.”
The hotel is scheduled to open in June 2020, with bookings already available on their website https://www.lavahotel.ws/.
