Christmas display fixture ideas – flexibility and functionality in one

December 15, 2022

With Christmas only days away, retail stores are moving into hyperdrive, rotating stock at a rapid pace and continuously updating and adjusting store fixtures.

With this increase in activity, the type of fixtures, shelving and fittings a retail store has on the floor can make a difference. Flexible store fixtures which can be moved and adjusted easily are key, keeping things interesting and convenient for shoppers as well as adding to overall customer experience.

Adjustable shelving allows products of different shapes and sizes to be rotated through a store, with the flexibility to put some products in prominent locations. GDM have supplied a wide range of tables, impulse, gondola and modular display systems to many of New Zealand’s leading retailers using contemporary designs and clever use of sustainable materials.

GDM’s refit of Hannahs stores nationwide is a classic example of coming up with a design that can be adjusted to fit the season and new product ranges. Our client wanted excellent product lighting so footwear on all shelves could be equally well-lit. This required an individual lighting system fixed into each shelf.  With the wiring hidden inside the front post and transformers hidden in the plinth at the bottom, the entire wall system, can easily be reconfigured without tools or electricians. This is ideal when trying to accommodate different sized products such as high boots in winter and sandals in summer.

These plinths can be easily moved around a store

Liquorland Boutique is another example of style and functionality combined in one. When fitting out Liquorland Boutique’s concept store, GDM designed and built new window grids for an extra level of security, while also acting as a functional window display. The grids are permanently mounted, with the ability to move shelves around to accommodate different bottle sizes, and to display signage.

Collapsible and nesting tables are also commonly used at this time of year to merchandise a wide range of products. These tables incorporate fold-away trestle legs that allow the table to be stored back of house or easily moved from one area of a store to another. You can often find them at the storefront entrance to drive impulse sales or dotted around a store to showcase a large volume of product on one fixture.

Another clever idea from GDM is the Three-in-One modular point-of-sale display stand. This stand can be quickly changed out by store staff or a merchandiser to create a different type of display stand. So you can go from a shelved display stand, to a hang sell prong display or turn it into a dump bin – all from the one display unit.
