Each year, for the past ten years, GDM has completed store fitouts for Burnsco, and 2021 is no exception, with their new Westhaven store at the foot of the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge the latest.
As with previous stores, Burnsco provided GDM with the footprint and our team designed fixtures and display systems for the space. Normally each of Burnsco’s stores follow a similar design formula. However, in this case, the Westhaven store required an increased emphasis for apparel along with a central island sales counter.
Perhaps one of the biggest challenges with this project was the metal sales counter. Completed in an island shape, it is unique to the Westhaven store and works on a modular system to enhance storage. The metal look is a great fit with the Burnsco brand as it features the Burnsco logo and blue colour, along with a nautical stripe. The counter features aluminium, a material common on many boats, plus it really pops with a shine.
The counter is located in the centre of the store and is shaped in such a way to give staff clear views of all aisles. This aids in security, while also ensuring staff are approachable and available to assist customers.
A point of difference for this Burnsco store is an emphasis on apparel, with apparel racking and wall systems taking over half of the store. GDM completed the fitout utilising a stripped back metal system, allowing the product to be the hero.
When designing and manufacturing fixtures for Burnsco, the unique products they sell are taken into account. The anchor display is a mini racking system that can take a whole lot of weight. The system is made from roll-formed steel and the mini pallet racking is able to take Burnsco’s full range of anchors providing a complete shopping experience for customers.
Other unique elements include the bait shelves which have a similar look to fishing rod holders, display systems for trailer jockey wheels, and sheet metal shelves to house Navman products and fish finders. Cabling for the electronic products is hidden with mounting to present a clear shelf, while also allowing customers to interact with the products.
Burnsco Westhaven is a large store with a direct connection to the Westhaven Promenade. The store is located in a spectacular spot, looking out onto the harbour. With fresh clean fixtures, along with extensive views, the store brings a calming effect to customers. It is something of a sanctuary, where they can source all their boating merchandise for one of their favourite pastimes.
Burnsco are thrilled with the completed fitout and have enjoyed welcoming customers into their store in time for summer.
“We keep coming back to GDM for our shop fit outs and appreciate the ongoing evolution of the system as well as the ability to customise and create the elements we need to display our specialist products.” – Chris Reay, Burnsco
