It’s been a big month for Whanganui business GDM Group, with the team winning two categories at this year’s RED Awards, celebrating the best retail design interiors across New Zealand.
Held in Auckland each year, the RED (Retail Excellence in Design) Awards exist to promote the Retail Interiors Association, its members, sponsors and retailers themselves. When selecting winners, judges placed emphasis on meeting the needs of the target market and creating a point of difference within today’s competitive retail sector.
GDM’s entry for the Mitre 10 MEGA Silverdale store, in conjunction with the Mitre 10 New Zealand Innovation and Experience Design team, won the Big Box store category, along with the Visual Merchandising award for 2023.
“Mitre 10 Silverdale is the first of its kind, and we are very pleased with the finished product, which has of course been justly rewarded at the RED Awards,” says Michael Eden of GDM Group.
“The store is designed to help customers at every step, making it as seamless as possible for them to find and purchase the products they are looking for. Plus it looks incredible with quality, great value finishes.”
GDM created all shelving, navigation structures and signage, display units and Design Hubs.
The resulting store makes finding precise locations for products easier, while also feeling like a store within a store due to the development of Hero categories. For customers, the big box experience is elevated and yet transitions are smooth due to the consistent use of materials throughout.
Digital information kiosks, as designed by Whanganui business Inc Creative Limited, have been used in the store’s new Design Hub, where customers are offered a ‘whole of project’ solution across kitchen, laundry, bathroom and wardrobe.
This new proof of concept store at Mitre 10 MEGA Silverdale has been well received by customers and the Mitre 10 team. GDM looks forward to working with Mitre 10 as they seek to evolve the instore experience of their customers across the board.
